40 Minutes (2014)

A domestic performance celebrating Lena’s 40th birthday, 29 November 2014.

40c.jpgThe performance took place on Sunday, 30 November at 4pm. This performance was created in the lead up to Lena’s 40th. Working for 40 minutes every day for 40 days, from 20 October to 28 November. A creation of 40 notebooks for 40 women in Lena’s life in the UK, post the age of 25.

A performance on the stairs of the house. Fearing age, confronting stuckness, imagining utopia here and now. Growing up. Lamenting and confessing. Understanding in the making. Compiling, writing, cutting, glueing, reading, narrating.

‘4/11/2014′ CONSTANT YEARNING

I ended up here, in Anfield. I wouldn’t really want to go back (it would drive me insane) but one of the most difficult thoughts I have re: turning 40 is that life is more about consolidating what you have rather than starting anew. I am stuck in making Anfield (technically still Everton) my UTOPIA. Where would I go? No, I’m happy here, happy to be stuck here.’

‘Well, you never know exactly how much space you occupy in people’s life’ Fitzgerald in Tender is the Night.

Presents for the 40th birthday were notebooks.
